IGCSE French
The friendliest exam !
IGCSE French is the epitome of positive marking.
The marking guide reads : 'Examiners are required to award ticks beside each substantially correct marking unit. Errors are not to be indicated.'
# je kiffe le français
Students who can navigate a range of daily life situations with healthy grammar foundations will score points easily to get that coveted A*.
How to train for IGCSE French?
IGCSE candidates are expected to communicate fluidly on topics related to their everyday life. They are able to develop ideas on health and the environment, both in writing and in speaking.
They need to master a precise core set of vocabulary (insert link?) (level A2/B1 of the European framework of language), around five prescribed topic areas :
Everyday activities
Personal and social life
The world around us
The world of work
The international world.

To reach the top grades, IGCSE students have to demonstrate their expertise of trickier points in the French grammar.
Such as the use of irregular verbs in the future 'Pour Noël j'irai à Hong Kong avec mes parents' or the confident use of conditionnel with imparfait complex clause 'Ah, si j'avais le temps, je ferais du basket le mercredi matin'.
This strategy triggers the scoring mechanism of positive marking.

DELF exams
French Ministry of Education
Taking the DELF exams is a fantastic training to build up students' confidence.
The certification is recognized worlwide and by future employers.
DELF (Diploma in French Language Studies) is administered by the French Ministry of Education. It offers four levels of examination aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.(insert link)
I always recommend that my students take DELF alongside their IB or IGCSE. DELF provides a great opportunity to assess their performance in a real examination setting with native speaking examiners in an authentic French environment (in Singapore, l'Alliance Française). IB students can train for DELF B2, and IGCSE students can train for DELF A2 and/or DELF B2.

Because DELF is an internationally recognized qualification, it offers valuable credibility in language proficiency and a place of choice on students' resumes.
